Castrum Vallis at Ulika Gallery: Traces
Galerija Ulika - Saturday, 25.07. - Saturday, 15.08.2026.
The 62nd edition of Castrum Vallis takes place in Bale at Ulika Gallery, with the opening at MMC Ulika and the 2026 theme Traces.
The Castrum Vallis exhibition is staged at Ulika Gallery in Bale from 25 July to 15 August 2026. The opening is on 25 July at 20:00, with the programme organised by the Municipality of Bale and the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Bale.
Traces as a visual-art theme
The 62nd edition centres on the theme Traces. Artists respond through painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing and photography, so the same exhibition framework can include material imprints, documentary scenes, personal memories, signs in space and symbolic traces of everyday life. Each artist could submit up to two works, while the exhibition selection is shaped by a professional committee consisting of Maja Zidarić Pilat, Fulvio Juričić and Breza Žižović. This process preserves the open character of Castrum Vallis: the exhibition is not limited to one medium or one visual language, but connects academically trained and self-taught artists through a shared theme. The best works will be included in a printed catalogue, and selected works will also be presented on the Castrum Vallis project website. For the audience, the strength of the theme lies in the fact that it is not a decorative label, but a starting point for different views of time, memory, landscape, architecture and personal gestures that remain visible after the moment has passed.
Castrum Vallis and Ulika Gallery
Castrum Vallis belongs to Bale’s long visual-art tradition, which has developed since the 1960s and connects the local cultural scene with artists of different generations. The 2026 display is at Ulika Gallery, within MMC Ulika at Rovinjska 1, so a visit to the exhibition can be naturally combined with a walk through Bale’s old town.
Practical information
The exhibition opens on 25 July at 20:00 at MMC Ulika. The works remain on view until 15 August 2026, and Ulika Gallery is located in the town itself, close to Bale’s main streets and Tomaso Bembo Square.
