Possert Castel

A fortress that was damaged in 17th century and opened to the public in 2016

The fortress Kaštel Possert is located next to Paz and just above Letajski potok. It was built in the late Middle Ages. It was a sign of the property of the feudal estate. Over the years, this fort belonged to several families (Kožljak, Guteneck, Moyses, and Barbo).

It is believed that this castle was damaged and abandoned at the beginning of the 17th century during the Uskok War because the Barbo family then built the Belaj castle. This castle can still be visited today. In fact, it is a famous winery that produces top wines (vina Belaj). The view from the Possert castle overlooks the Belaj castle.

Thanks to archaeological research that lasted from 2007 to 2016, this fortress was finally opened to the public. Today it is possible to visit the fort at any time and climb the stairs to the spot which offers an amazing view.
