Teatar Naranča comes to Bembo Fest with the comedy Istrijan na Tinderu, a story about Massimo, his family in Cunculići and the search for love through an app.

Massimo, family and love on a screen

In Istrijan na Tinderu, young Massimo from the small Istrian village of Cunculići cannot find a girlfriend in a way his family would consider natural or timely. His mother, father, nona and nono all have clear ideas about when a person should settle down, what a serious relationship should look like and how long a family is allowed to wait before interfering. Massimo therefore chooses a solution that sounds almost revolutionary in Cunculići: he opens a Tinder profile. What follows is more than a clash between old and new. It becomes a comedy about an Istrian family in which nobody stays silent when love, marriage and someone else’s life are concerned. The strength of the piece lies in recognition: digital dating is not treated as an urban pose, but as something that collides with local mentality, dialect and family care that easily turns into control.

Teatar Naranča performs the piece as part of its 15+ stage line, with humour based on Istrian situations, language and quick acting rhythm. Two performers carry several relationships and comic turns, so the pace depends on precise shifts between Massimo’s wish for independence and the family pressure that keeps pulling him back into the village. Tomaso Bembo Square gives the performance direct contact with the audience in the old centre of Bale.
