Rabac: a coastal walk and the Sentona trail to Labin

Rabac is a seaside resort below Labin, with pebble beaches and a coastal promenade. The Sentona trail links it to the hilltop town through woods and a valley.

Rabac grew from a fishing village into a seaside resort. Its first hotel, the Quarnero, opened on 11 June 1889 in the Višković family’s house. It had a few rooms and a ground-floor inn, long before the larger hotel developments of the 1960s.

From Maslinica towards the St Andrew peninsula

The coastal walk connects Maslinica Bay with the waterfront and the St Andrew peninsula. The peninsula has a small 15th-century church of the same name, and the coast offers views towards Cres. The route continues along the sea towards Prižnja Bay and Prohaska, an area named after a Rijeka merchant family who had a summer residence there.

Down from the old town and back uphill

The Sentona trail, numbered 804, connects Labin and Rabac. From the old town, it descends through pine woodland towards the valley and Maslinica Bay. The valley contains the remains of an old mill and springs, while a short detour leads to the ruins of the Romanesque church of St Hadrian.

Starting from Rabac on this trail means climbing towards the old town. If you begin in Labin and return along the same trail, the climb comes on the way back.
