Captain America (1990): Albert Pyun’s film in Rovinj
Albert Pyun filmed part of his 1990 Captain America in Rovinj. Mia Begović appears alongside Matt Salinger and Scott Paulin.
Steve Rogers before the later adaptations
Salinger plays Steve Rogers, a soldier whom scientists turn into a super soldier during the Second World War. While fighting the Red Skull, played by Scott Paulin, Rogers becomes trapped in ice. Decades later, he returns to life and faces the same enemy again, this time to save the American president.
Pyun’s adaptation predates Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), starring Chris Evans. Salinger later recalled that the production ran out of money and that a planned trip to Alaska was dropped after filming in Yugoslavia.
Action scenes on Rovinj’s waterfront
The crew used Rovinj’s streets and waterfront for car chases and shootouts. Croatian actress Mia Begović also appears in this adaptation of the Marvel character, playing a young Italian woman.
