MMC Ulika in Bale: dinosaurs and the bird collection

MMC Ulika in Bale displays dinosaur fossils from Colone Bay. A second exhibition features preserved local birds, with recordings of their calls.

The Ulika Multimedia Centre stands at the entrance to La Musa Square, at Rovinjska 1. Alongside its palaeontology and bird collections, the gallery hosts temporary art exhibitions, including Castrum Vallis.

Fossils from Colone Bay

In 1992, diver Dario Boscarolli discovered dinosaur remains on the seabed in Colone Bay near Bale. Ulika displays fossils from the site alongside a model of the dinosaur Histriasaurus.

Pietro Sassaro’s bird collection

Pietro Sassaro spent decades collecting birds from Bale, Rovinj and the surrounding area, including Palud. His preserved specimens are displayed in glass cases, with species descriptions and recordings of their calls. To watch birds in the wild, Palud reserve near Rovinj makes a separate outing.
