Kabola Winery: Momjan Muscat and amphora wines
Kabola Winery near Momjan makes Momjan Muscat, Istrian Malvasia and Teran from organically grown grapes. Malvazija Amfora and Teran Amfora are vinified in buried clay vessels. Tasting them alongside wines from the same varieties made without amphorae reveals how the method changes the wine. Guided visits must be arranged in advance.
From Re sparkling wine to Momjan Muscat
The current range includes Re sparkling wine, Malvazija Istarska, Rosa, Teran, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Muškat Momjanski and the sweet wine Dolce. The aged wines include Malvazija Unica, Malvazija Amfora, Teran Amfora and Cuvee Supremo.
The 2022 Amfora Teran won gold with 93 points at the 2026 Vinistra Wine & Spirits Awards, while the 2025 Muškat Momjanski took silver with 88 points. At the 2026 World of Malvasia competition, the 2022 Unica Malvazija also received silver with 88 points.
Organic vineyards and buried amphorae
The Markežić family has made wine since 1891, and Marino Markežić opened the present winery in 2004. The estate farms 20 hectares of vines and has grown its grapes organically since 2009.
For Malvazija Amfora and Teran Amfora, the grapes undergo extended fermentation and maceration on the skins in Georgian clay amphorae buried in the ground. The wines remain on the skins until spring, then mature in large wooden casks. Comparing them with Istrian Malvasia and Teran made without amphorae shows how longer skin contact and maturation in wood shape wines made from the same grape varieties.

Odlična vina, možda malo preskupa ali se isplati.
