Benvenuti Winery in Kaldir

In Kaldir, the Benvenuti brothers make Malvasia and aged Teran wines. For a visit to their cellar, guests can choose from three tasting programmes.

Malvazija, Teran and Muscat from around Kaldir

Malvazija istarska matures for six months on its fine lees in a steel tank. Malvazija Livio spends one year in a large, previously used oak cask and then another year in bottle. For wines intended for longer ageing, the family uses large, older oak casks that do not give the wine a pronounced new-oak character.

For Caldierosso, the family blends Teran with Merlot, Nebbiolo and Tempranillo. Teran Livio is a single-variety wine from selected vineyards, made for longer ageing. For the dessert wine Muškat San Salvatore, they dry the late-harvest grapes naturally for three months before vinification.

Vineyards on white earth

The family's first vineyard was planted in 1946, and the first labels bearing the Benvenuti name appeared in 2003. Today, brothers Albert and Nikola Benvenuti run the winery. Their vineyards extend across the slopes around Kaldir and Motovun. At 400 metres above sea level, San Salvatore is the highest site. The carbonate-rich soil over flysch, known as white earth, ranges from loam to heavy clay.

Cellar tour and three tasting programmes

All three programmes include a guided cellar tour, a wine tasting and small bites made with local produce. They differ in the number and selection of wines.

• Tradition Experience: tasting of five wines.
• Sense of Place Experience: tasting of six wines.
• Deep Teran Experience: five wines and a comparison of different Teran wines.

In the Deep Teran programme, you can compare Caldierosso, a Teran-based blend, single-variety Teran Livio Benvenuti and Santa Elisabetta, a Teran from a single vineyard site. The tasting also includes Rosé and the sweet San Salvatore Muškat. In October 2026, the programme remains available while supplies of Santa Elisabetta set aside for this tasting last.

Tours begin at 13:00 and 16:00 and last 70 to 90 minutes. They are offered in Croatian or English and require at least two guests. The tasting room seats 18. Tastings are not private. You can pay in advance or after the tasting. Guest parking is available.
