Radovan Winery in Radovani near Višnjan produces wines from six grape varieties and the aged Capeletto range. Tastings are arranged in advance.
Istrian Malvasia, Refošk and the Capeletto range
The Radovan family started out in 1994 with 1.5 hectares of old Malvasia vines in the vineyards around the village. The first Cabernet Sauvignon vines were planted in 1996, followed by the first bottled wine, a Malvasia from the 1998 vintage. The winery now makes wines from Istrian Malvasia, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Refošk, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The white Capeletto is an aged Malvasia, while the red Capeletto is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Capeletto Malvazija 2023 received 94 points at Falstaff's 2026 tasting. Radovan's 2009 Refošk won gold and was named the best aged Refošk at Vinistra 2012.
Tasting in Radovani
The effect of longer ageing on wines from the same grape variety is clearest when the white Capeletto is tasted after the Istrian Malvasia. Among the reds, local Refošk provides a point of comparison with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and the red Capeletto blend.
