Coronica is a family winery in Koreniki near Umag, focused on Istrian Malvasia and Teran, with Due, Ottaviano and Grabar. Tastings are by appointment.

Which wines should you taste at Coronica?

A useful introduction is to taste Istrian Malvasia and Teran alongside their more mature counterparts, Gran Malvazija and Gran Teran. Gran Malvazija is made only when the harvest allows a careful selection of grapes. Gran Teran is likewise not produced every vintage and matures in wooden casks.

Due is an extra brut sparkling wine made entirely from Istrian Malvasia by the traditional method. Ottaviano is a skin-contact Malvasia fermented with yeasts isolated from the family vineyards, while Grabar combines Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Together, these wines show more than a long list of labels: they reveal how the same cellar handles local grapes in styles ranging from fresh wines to bottles built for ageing.

Why does Koreniki matter to Coronica’s wines?

The vineyards at the Bosco Grando site lie about 2.5 kilometres from the sea, on red soil marked by white limestone. The Coronica family has grown vines here for generations, and Moreno Coronica developed today’s winery alongside his late father, Ottaviano. Istrian Malvasia and Teran remain the core of production, while Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon have a smaller, clearly defined role in Grabar.

Vinistra’s Hall of Fame, covering champion titles from the Vinistra wine awards and The World of Malvasia between 2001 and 2026, records three titles for Coronica.

Visitors arrange a tasting in advance, and the tasting room accommodates groups of up to 50 people. Free parking is available beside it.
