Tomaz Winery in Motovun: wine tastings and food

At Tomaz, you can combine a wine tasting with a meal. Alongside ham and cheese, tasting menus are available for a longer visit to the tasting room.

Malvasia and different styles of Teran

Avangarde is a fresh Istrian Malvasia, while Barbarossa is a Teran aged for 18 months in oak barrels. Superior, also a Teran, is not released until its fifth year. The family uses the same grape to make rosé and sparkling wine. Comparing these wines offers an introduction to different ways of making Teran, from fresh styles to long ageing.

The range also includes Muscat, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. The family launched its own wine label in 2008, building on inherited vineyards. Today it works with its own vineyards and partner growers around Motovun.

A tasting room outside the old town

The winery is in the Kanal area, below Motovun. Its building of Istrian stone and weathering steel houses the production cellar and tasting room, overlooking the family's vineyards and the hilltop town. The first harvest processed in the new cellar was in 2023.

You can combine your visit with a walk through the old town, continuing uphill from the winery.
