Lucio Toffetti: extra virgin olive oil from Vodnjan

Lucio Toffetti's farm in Vodnjan makes olive oil from 300 trees of five varieties. Its award-winning oils include single-variety Buža and Buža blends.

Five varieties in Vodnjan's red soil

At about 115 metres above sea level, 300 trees grow in Vodnjan's red soil: Buža, Rosinjola, Karbonaca, Istarska bjelica and Leccino. The farm has won awards for both single-variety oils and blends. Buža features in both categories.

Buža in single-variety oils and blends

At Vodnjan's 2013 olive-oil showcase, both the single-variety Buža and a Karbonaca-Rosinjola blend won gold. In 2017, AIPO awarded a Diploma di Gran Menzione to an oil made from 90 per cent Buža and 10 per cent Rosinjola. At Zlato Istre 2023, the single-variety Buža received four Golden Drops and Special Merit in the medium-fruity category.
