Benvegnu Olive Mill in Krasica
Benvegnu is a family-run olive mill in Krasica near Buje. The family grows Istarska bjelica, Buža, Leccino and Pendolino and processes the olives in its own mill. A visit may include a mill tour and comparative tasting, but must be arranged in advance.
Istarska bjelica, Buža, Leccino and Pendolino
Istarska bjelica and Buža are native Istrian cultivars, while Leccino and Pendolino originated in Italy. The list of cultivars alone does not show which current labels are single-varietal oils and which are blends, so ask when arranging the visit.
Processing in the family’s own mill
Olives from the family groves are processed in its own mill. When making an appointment, check whether the production area can be visited on your preferred date and what will be possible to see.
Tours and tastings by arrangement
The tasting room accommodates groups of up to 30, and free parking is available. In your enquiry, include your preferred date, group size and whether you would like both a tasting and a mill tour. No regular visiting hours are published, so wait for confirmation before setting out.
The mill is at Gardoši 58, Krasica, 52460 Buje.
Istria PDO and awards from 2013 and 2014
Benvegnu is listed among producers with the Istra PDO. The designation does not automatically apply to every oil on offer, so check the label on the individual bottle.
In 2013, Benvegnu was among the gold award winners at Dani masline in Zadar, in the category for packaged extra virgin olive oils. A year later, it was named champion in the oil mill category in Biograd. These are historical results tied to production at the time. They cannot automatically be applied to later harvests or labels currently on sale.
