Ranch Barba Tone: horse riding and trail rides in Istria

In Manjadvorci, near Barban, Ranch Barba Tone organises riding for beginners, families with children and experienced riders. Options range from a first encounter with a horse to trail rides lasting several hours through south-eastern Istria towards Raša Bay and the coast.

From a first ride to the open trail

The right programme depends on age, experience and the time available. Children can begin with a few led laps and beginners with a shorter guided ride; longer rides are chosen according to the rider’s experience and the demands of the route. The ranch has horses suited to different levels of experience, so include each participant’s age and previous riding experience in your enquiry.

Trail rides towards Raša Bay and the coast

Longer rides head towards Barban, Blaz Cove, the old mills near Rakalj and the Hauser trail above Raša Bay. One route also includes swimming with the horses. Depending on the route, these rides cover about 18 to 30 kilometres and take four to seven hours.

These are not simply extended beginner rides. Some routes require riding experience. The final choice should be made in consultation with the guide, taking into account the group, trail conditions and weather.

Riding school and children’s programmes

The ranch has operated since 2001. Its riding school teaches participants how to approach a horse safely, groom, prepare and saddle it, maintain the correct riding position in walk, trot and canter, as well as the basics of riding independently and on trails. The introductory course is open to participants aged eight and over, comprises ten hours and is held in autumn, winter and spring.

Summer and winter camps are organised for children aged eight to eighteen. The ranch also offers children’s outings and birthday celebrations. Availability and programme details should be checked for the date you have in mind.

What to include when booking

Trail rides lasting several hours must be booked in advance, and confirmation may require a deposit. In your enquiry, include your preferred date, the number and ages of participants, previous experience, and the type or duration of ride you are interested in. Dates and routes depend on availability, the group’s experience and the weather.
