Boljunska Konoba: ravioli with curd cheese and pršut in Boljun

Boljunska Konoba is known for ravioli filled with curd cheese from the family herd and prosciutto. Beyond the ravioli, order maneštra, ombolo with cabbage or roast veal, then finish with pancakes filled with curd cheese and honey.

The curd cheese used for the ravioli comes from the family herd. The family keeps cows around Boljun and in the Boljun Field, using their milk for the cheese in both ravioli and pancakes. Bread and pasta are made in the konoba’s kitchen.

The ravioli are made with white and green pasta dough, filled with curd cheese and served in a cream sauce with fried prosciutto. Local eggs give the dough its colour and firmness, while the mild cheese leaves room for the saltiness of the prosciutto.

Lunch can begin with maneštra or mushroom soup, followed by ombolo with cabbage or roast veal with potatoes. Part of the menu is prepared daily, so ask what is available when booking.

For dessert, the curd cheese is served in pancakes with honey. Homemade strudels are another option when they have been prepared that day.

Run by Ružica Zrinšćak since 1985

Željko Buretić opened the konoba in 1973, while his wife Vida ran it. Their daughter Ružica Zrinšćak took over in 1985 after returning from school and now works with her son Noel.

Ružica turns some of the old household objects into pieces that remain in the dining room. Together with the open hearth, they give the room a personal character.

Lunch beside Boljun’s castle

The konoba stands beside the outer castle walls, on the edge of Boljun’s old town. It is not a roadside stop. Reaching it means turning into the old settlement above the Boljun Field.

The dining room seats 50 and the terrace another 40. Book ahead for weekends and larger groups.
