Boškarin beef, Adriatic fish and shellfish, black truffle, vegetables from the restaurant garden and olive oils from its own and local groves shape the cooking at La Grisa.

Mauro Fedel serves Boškarin carpaccio with Istrian black truffle as a starter. He makes the brodet, a local seafood stew, with octopus, cuttlefish and wild-caught fish, and serves it with polenta.

There is also a vegetarian main course of cauliflower, goat’s cheese and parsley. Desserts include black-truffle ice cream with vanilla cream and an almond and hazelnut crumble. The selection changes with the seasons, so check the current menu before visiting.

Sommelier Bojan Družeta can suggest a wine for the dishes you choose. The list covers more than 50 wines from Istria and elsewhere in Croatia.

The restaurant occupies the former Alla Pace osteria in Bale’s old quarter. It is part of the family-run Hotel La Grisa, but welcomes diners who are not staying at the hotel.

Opening hours and booking

In summer, La Grisa is open daily from noon to 10 pm. In winter, it keeps the same hours from Tuesday to Sunday. Check which schedule applies before visiting. For a summer dinner, book through the form on this page.

Service, wine advice and courtyard tables

Service is generally knowledgeable and unobtrusive, and the wine advice is useful. The courtyard tables are most comfortable on warm evenings. Prices are above average, while experiences with individual dishes or outdoor seating in cooler weather are less consistent.
