La Grisa Restaurant: Istrian ingredients prepared in a contemporary style

At La Grisa, they use Istrian ingredients in less familiar ways too. Alongside fish and boškarin beef, try the black truffle ice cream.

From starters to dessert

For a fish starter, you can choose a raw or cooked preparation. They make white fish tartare with a citrus emulsion, while for the brodet they cook wild fish with octopus and cuttlefish. They serve this seafood stew with polenta.

They use beef from boškarin, the native Istrian cattle breed, for both a starter and a main course. The carpaccio comes with black Istrian truffle, while the ribs are served with a Roman-style gnocco, carrots and pickled vegetables.

They grow some of their vegetables and salad greens in their own garden. Vegetables feature in the main courses too, with cauliflower, goat’s cheese and parsley as a meat-free option. They serve olive oils from their own and local groves with the food.

You can also taste black truffle in a sweet dish here. They use it to make ice cream, served with vanilla cream and an almond and hazelnut crumble.

Alongside Istrian wines, they offer wines from other Croatian regions and French Champagne. Some wines are available by the glass, as well as a choice of bottles.

The former Alla Pace tavern

The restaurant occupies the former Alla Pace tavern in the old part of Bale and is part of the family-run La Grisa hotel. In warmer weather, you can choose a table in the inner courtyard or on the terrace beside the cistern.
