Monte in Rovinj, the first restaurant in Croatia to receive a Michelin star

Monte in Rovinj’s old town creates the seasonal Flora and Fauna menus. The Đekić family has run it since 1985, and it has held a Michelin star since 2017.

Danijel’s parents opened an Istrian tavern there in 1985, a few steps from the Church of St Euphemia. Danijel and Tjitske later took it over and developed it into a fine dining restaurant. Michelin awarded Monte a star in 2017 and confirmed it again in the 2026 edition of the Guide.

Tjitske heads the service team and oversees the wine selection, while Simon is the dining room manager and sommelier. In 2026, Michelin presented Tjitske and her team with its Service Award for their work with guests.

Six courses from one menu or a shorter selection from both

For the full tasting menu, guests choose all six courses from either Flora or Fauna. For a shorter option, they can combine three or four courses from both menus. Several small bites are served before the first course and after the last. Flora is vegetarian, but not vegan.

Danijel and Ilja choose seasonal ingredients, which they source from local fishers, farmers and other producers.

Arriving by car in the old town

The restaurant is in the pedestrian zone of Rovinj's old town. Guests leave their cars outside the pedestrian zone.
