San Polo beach near Bale: swimming and a day by the sea

San Polo near Bale has a pebble beach beside Babaloo bar and a playground. The surrounding coast has pebble coves and rocky stretches.

Pebbles, rocks and shade along the shore

San Polo is the name of a coastal zone at Mon Perin campsite, as well as one of the beaches within it. Pebbles cover the bathing area beside Babaloo. Along the wider coastline, shingle gives way to rock, so water shoes are useful for getting into the sea and moving between coves.

Mediterranean vegetation provides shade behind the beach, though not everywhere at the water's edge. For a family day out, the area near the showers, toilets and playground is a practical choice.

Play areas and breaks from swimming

Beside Babaloo are a children's playground and a small butterfly-shaped fountain, with beach volleyball and table tennis nearby. A floating water park is set up in front of the bar during the season. Campsite guests can use it free of charge. Babaloo also hosts open-air cinema on selected dates, rather than every evening.

For lunch in the same coastal zone, San Pol restaurant stands beside St. Paul beach and another playground. It serves pizza, pasta, meat and fish dishes. Beach Bar Vita is a separate place for a drink by the sea along the San Polo shore.

For a few hours at the pools, the campsite has Paleo Park, with a dinosaur-shaped pool. This is a separate water park, distinct from the floating attraction in the sea.

Getting there from Bale and swimming with a dog

• By car, take the road towards Mon Perin. Day visitors can use the paid car park in the Colone zone near Paleo Park. This does not mean parking beside each San Polo bathing area.
• Beach access is free for pedestrians and cyclists. A free tourist train runs from Bale in season, with a stop in the San Polo zone.
• Dogs may swim in a designated section of Bale beach within the San Polo zone. Pets are not allowed on the bathing beach that the campsite names San Polo.

A walk to Palud

You can walk from the campsite to the nearby Palud bird reserve. The wetland is a separate birdwatching destination, away from the developed bathing area. Walk quietly to avoid disturbing wildlife, and use binoculars to watch from a distance.
