Therapeutic beach at Martin Horvat Hospital in Rovinj
The hospital beach in Rovinj provides wheelchair access to the sea. Its three access points have different rules for assisted and independent entry.
The beach is within the Martin Horvat Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Hospital complex, on the Sveta Pelagija peninsula north of central Rovinj. The paved waterfront area connects with the hospital park and paths through the pine woodland.
Three access points with different rules
Access points A and B are reserved for people staying at the hospital who have undergone a medical examination and have a patient record. They do not provide assisted bathing for all visitors.
- Access point A is for people who need a physiotherapist’s help to transfer. Their patient record must authorise use of the sea.
- Access point B is for people who can transfer to the chair used for entering the sea with a trapeze support or help from their own companion.
- Access point C is a ramp for independent entry in the user’s own wheelchair, without a physiotherapist’s assistance.
In summer, the beach is used by hospital patients, residents and visitors who need adapted access to the sea.
On shore, the sunbathing area has wooden loungers set at a height that makes transferring from a wheelchair easier.
