San Simon Bay in Izola: a pebble beach with a waterslide
San Simon is a managed beach in Izola’s Jagodje district. Alongside the pebble shore and access from the pier, a large waterslide operates in summer.
At San Simon Bay, you can choose the pebble shore or the paved sunbathing area. Behind them is a lawn with a children’s playground. Pines and acacias shade part of the bathing area. You can also enter the sea at the access points on the pier.
Day visitors pay no separate admission fee, but must rent sunshades and loungers for a charge.
The waterslide stands near the middle of the beach. It operates during the beach season, with rides charged separately. You can also rent a kayak, pedalo or SUP board. Bambus Bar and Bistro San Simon serve hot meals in summer.
Beside the northern part of the beach, the Simonov zaliv Archaeological Park contains the remains of a Roman seaside villa dating from the 1st century BC. Floor mosaics survive in the former living quarters on land, while remains of the villa’s harbour lie in the sea beside the park.
For swimming beside Izola’s old town, another option is Svetilnik beach, at the northern end of the town’s peninsula. There you can lie on the grass on land and enter the sea over small pebbles.
