Hawaii Beach, Verudela
Hawaii Beach, in the cove officially named Procipina, is a small pebble shore between the high rocks of Verudela. Its shape and underwater terrain give a swim here a very different setting from a long, open beach.
The beach lies below the Park Plaza Arena hotel and is reached by steps or rocky side paths. Space on the pebbles is limited, so an earlier arrival is more comfortable. Strong southerly winds send high waves into the cove; calm weather is therefore an important condition for a safe visit, not merely a prettier backdrop.
Swimming and looking below the surface
The marked snorkelling route follows the indented coast towards the Canyon cove. Crevices, algae-covered rocks and several fish species can be seen in the shallows. The underwater tunnel at a depth of roughly two to three metres is for experienced freedivers with fins and a realistic sense of their abilities; children must never explore it alone. The drive from Bale takes about 32 minutes, making an early swim easy to combine with a walk around Verudela. If the sea becomes rough, the outing can continue on land or along a more sheltered part of the coast.
